This will be a bit of a glossary for many of the elements in human design with extraordinarily basic definitions
I'll be including the traditional human design names as well as the Quantum Human Design™ language created by Karen Curry Parker.
I don't follow all one or the other in terms of language, though when talking I generally use the traditional human design language as it is what most people know. When giving reports, I try to include both. I think knowing/reading both can give more depth to the energy held within that element of the chart.
The basic level of type is something a lot of people will know about themselves. In a way it is kind of like knowing your sun sign in astrology - it tells us some things, but very little in comparison once you know the full scope of what information resides within the chart.
Terms given: Traditional/QHD - with very simplified definitions
Type with Strategy:
Manifestor/Initiator - inform then initiate
Generator/Alchemist - wait to respond
Manifesting Generator/Time Bender - wait to respond, envision, inform then take action
Projector/Orchestrator - wait for recognition or invitation
Reflector/Calibrator - wait a Lunar cycle
Authority:
Sacral/Evolutionary - defined sacral center, operates with a yes/no, uh huh/unh unh response
Splenic/Actualizing - in the moment intuitional "knowing", what feels right
Emotional/Creative - ride the emotional wave, how do you feel about something over time, take time for feeling into the "right" decision
Will/Ego/Resource - do you have the energy to do something?
Orchestrated in QHD covers Self Project, No Authority, No inner authority and Mental-projected authority - has a need/works best to talk through decisions, to have a sounding board to be able to hear themselves talk
Profile Lines: 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, 2/5, 3/5, 3/6, 4/6, 4/1, 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3
The profile lines I really mix up the traditional and QHD language, some terms are easier for me to remember and remind me of what I want to remember about that number. The first number is from the Conscious/Personality side and the 2nd number is from the Unconscious/Deisgn side of the chart.
1 Line - Investigator/The Resource - loves doing a deep dive into info, following the worm holes of information, seeks deep understanding
2 Line - Hermit/The Responder - needs alone time to process, self reflection, is drawn out again after time "hermitting" , naturally talented
3 Line - Martyr/The Explorer - Experimenter/Experiential learner, trying all the things to learn, tries even after advice is given so they can know anyway, no "mistakes" when something is learned
4 Line - Opportunist/The Stabilizer - thrives through networks/community/relationships
5 Line - Heretic/The Visionary Leader - brings universalization and solution to the collective, might be viewed (projected upon) as seductive, compelling or a savior (or the opposite)
6 Line - Role Model/The Adept - leads by example from wisdom gained - a unique line that has 3 phases: 1) experimental like a line three, 2) on the roof, more inward and self reflective, and 3) off the roof and sharing the wisdom gained
Centers:
Centers can be Defined (colored in on the chart), Undefined (white, but at least 1 gate defined), Open (no gates defined) Often Undefined and Open get used interchangeably. Some people are very particular, others are not. I do my best to specify between undefined and open, though not always. Most of the discussion around definition or openness doesn't matter whether it is undefined or open. The openness or definition creates variations on the themes. This will be a much more broadly discussed topic another time.
Head/Quantum Interface - where inspiration comes in, questions live here
Ajna/Divine Translator - thoughts/beliefs/perspectives/opinions
Throat/Activation - communication/expression
G or Identity Center/Calibration - (self)love, (self)acceptance, direction in life
Will or Ego/Resource - willpower/energy to follow through
Spleen/Self-Actualization - intuitive insights in the moment, survival energy, fear
Emotional Solar Plexus (ESP)/Creative - emotions live here
Sacral/Evolution - the energy of "work" and creation
Root/Divine Timing - adrenaline energy/stress/ and timing
Incarnation Cross: (192 possibilities)
Determined by the top 4 gates (top 2 gates on each side of the chart) - Very potent energy that makes up about 70% of someone's personality.
Gates:
There are 64 Gates - this is one of my favorite aspects of the human design chart. They are based on the I Ching hexagrams. Reading the hexagram can give nuance and a broader vision of the energy of the gate. (more on this later as it is a lot of info, so for now, just listing the names) I've seen a lot of different HD teachers/experts/enthusiasts come up with their own names for the gates, they feel pretty fluid to me.
